House Democratic taxwriter Ron Kind nixes re-election bid
House Ways and Means Committee member Ron Kind, D-Wis., announced this week that he will not seek re-election to Congress in 2022.
Kind was elected to his first term in Congress in 1996 and joined the Ways and Means Committee in 2007. He currently serves on the Health and Trade subcommittees.
In a statement, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal, D-Mass., lauded Kind as “an honorable, humble public servant, who is committed to bipartisanship wherever possible. From fighting for farmers and small business owners on the Trade Subcommittee to reshaping our health care system through his contributions to the Affordable Care Act, Ron has distinguished himself as a trusted voice for Wisconsin, and rural America-at-large.”
Kind is the first Democrat on the House taxwriting panel to signal his intentions to leave Capitol Hill at the end of the current term. On the Republican side, Ways and Means ranking member Kevin Brady of Texas and committee member Tom Reed of New York have already announced that they are not running for re-election.
