Ways and Means Committee schedules ‘Member Day’ hearing
The House Ways and Means Committee announced this week that it will hold a “Member Day” hearing on September 14 at 9:00 a.m.
Member Day hearings give House lawmakers—taxwriters and nontaxwriters alike—an opportunity to offer their thoughts on issues within the Ways and Means Committee’s jurisdiction. In addition to taxation, that expansive roster includes tariffs and other revenue-raising measures, as well as programs such as Social Security, unemployment insurance, Medicare, enforcement of child support laws, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and foster care and adoption programs.
The format of these hearings typically does not allow for debate or for follow-up questions from committee members.
